Lloyd Blankfein, the top executive at Goldman Sachs, announced on Tuesday that he has a “highly curable” form of lymphoma. His treatment will include a few months of chemotherapy. He notified his board of the diagnosis Monday around 4 p.m., according to Bloomberg. Blankfein, who is 61, will continue to run Goldman Sachs, although he won’t be traveling as much as he used to. He has been CEO of Goldman Sachs since 2006 — leading the firm during the financial crisis and the aftermath of increased skepticism of Wall Street — when his predecessor Henry Paulson went to become President Bush’s Treasury secretary. He wrote in a statement that “my doctors’ and my own expectation is that I will be cured” and that there “are many people who are dealing with cancer every day. I draw on their experiences as I begin my own.” JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, the only other big bank CEO on Wall Street who has served since before the recession, began throat-cancer treatment last year while continuing to run his company — and announced he was cancer-free last December.
