Flags (and Hearse), Fifth Avenue Daily Intel’s roving photographer, Everett Bogue, is back from St. Thomas Church, at Fifth Avenue and 53rd Street, where he reports crowds five or so people deep on all the sidewalks, a phalanx of NYPD, and lots of confused motorists heading down Fifth and wondering what all the commotions is for. 9/11 in Stained Glass There’s news today of what must be a first in cathedral art: A Dutch bishop yesterday blessed a new stained-glass window for Sint Jan cathedral in Den Bosch, a city 50 miles south of Amsterdam, that includes a photographic image of an airplane headed into the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. (Click here for a full image of the window.) “It was an assignment by the church to make a stained glass window that was related to the spirit of this time,” artist Marc Mulders said on his Website, where he explained that the pane represents hell on earth. We can understand that rationale, we guess, but we’re less convinced of its artistry. Looks like bad Hieronymus Bosch. —Tayt Harlin 9/11 Pane in Church Blessed [LAT]

Cursed Brooklynites Seek Relief What doesn’t Brooklyn have? An ad in today’s Metro promised to undo the curses that plague us, be they addictions, debt, rage, or witchcraft. But if you can’t make it out to the Universal Church in Bedford-Stuyvesant on Friday night at seven, call ahead and reserve a prayer. We asked for help in getting rid of our migraines, and the gentleman working the phones added us to the list. Doctors “won’t fix all your problems,” he said, encouraging us to stop by the church sometime: “How can you taste the food if you never go in the restaurant?” Caution to the cursed: Our man said the phone has been ringing ever since the ad hit the streets, so your prayer may not be answered in a timely fashion. —Jocelyn Guest Metro New York [Official site]
