Not even a duel would settle this: Should pineapple be on pizza?
Did Hong Kong’s Cheung Ka-long actually defeat Italy’s Filippo Macchi for men’s foil gold, and does pineapple really belong on pizza?
These are the difficult issues brought on by Cheung’s narrow — Italians would say unjust — 15-14 victory yesterday. As Italian and Hong Kong netizens debated the match, online discourse shifted to pizza and some Hong Kong citizens’ enjoying tropical fruit on their slices, which is sacrilege to Italians.
Hong Kong Pizza Hut got into the debate and is offering free pineapple topping on pizza till tomorrow in celebration of Cheung and the greater Hong Kong effort during the Games.
