A designer in his own right, Guillermo Molina will “rub off” a pair of threadbare Calvin trousers ($400, including fabric) or that Armani suit you’ve worn to death (starting at $900), reproducing everything down to the buttonholes. He’s especially skilled when it comes to eveningwear.

MARTIN ALBERT INTERIORS

Bring in a sketch, and Albert’s team will reproduce that overstuffed sofa, just the right length for your living room, that exists in your mind’s eye (or your neighbor’s apartment). This shop has hundreds of thousands of fabrics in swatch books, all discounted from list prices. A slipper chair in a modest $40-per-yard cotton is about $850; an opulent three-seater sofa covered with $100-per-yard silk damask is about $6,000. Much of the work is done right here, in the cavernous second-floor workroom.

Wooden Furniture
JOSEPH BIUNNO, LTD.

You bought a set of seven Sheraton dining chairs—the eighth one long gone—and need one more made? Joe’s your guy. A straight-backed chair without a lot of showy detail runs about $1,500; a heavily carved Chippendale-style chair would be $6,000. Biunno also does large-scale items like mirror frames and four-poster beds.

Are you using Granny’s china, minus a few pieces? Anatoly and Rena Krishtul recently made two Meissen pieces to match an extremely discontinued nineteenth-century service ($10,000 for the pair). They’ll just as expertly custom-make a single teacup (about $300), or a platter (a small one without too much ornamentation will run about $800) by finding a matching blank and painting in the design by hand, then firing it on the premises.

MAXIM SEMYNOV
560 Fifth Ave., Second fl.

While Russian-born and -trained Semynov will do simple repairs (ring sizing starts at $25), his greatest joy is in a tricky challenge. Present him a lone cuff link or earring, and he’ll whip up its twin. Custom jobs start at $250 and, of course, can go way up from there. (Ask about his wedding and engagement rings, too.)
