The Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott have agreed to a four-year, $240 million contract that will make him the highest-paid player in NFL history, according to multiple reports.

The deal includes $231 million in guaranteed money. ESPN reported the signing first.

Prescott had been set to enter the final year of his current contract. The long, drawn-out negotiation ended with him earning the biggest contract in league history, valued at $60 million a season.

Hours after the deal was finished, Prescott led his team to a 33-17 win against the Cleveland Browns.

Prescott, 31, was a fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft. He is headed into his ninth season in the NFL, all with the Cowboys. He has a 73-41 record but only 2-5 in the postseason.

Last season, Prescott set career highs in completions (410) and touchdowns (36), throwing for 4,516 yards with only nine interceptions. He led Dallas to a 12-5 record, but the Cowboys lost at home in the first round of the playoffs to the Green Bay Packers.

Prescott is the Cowboys second key offensive player to sign a new contract after extended negotiations this offseason, joining his top receiver, CeeDee Lamb. Now both Prescott and Lamb are signed through 2028.

The Cowboys are playing the Cleveland Browns in their Week 1 opener.
