Buccaneers win; the Baker Mayfield renaissance is on
The Buccaneers smacked the Commanders to the tune of 37-20 for a Week 1 win.
Baker Mayfield was dominant. Let me say that again. Baker Mayfield was dominant.
The former No. 1 overall pick completed 24 of 30 passes for 289 yards and four touchdowns in a flawless performance. Mike Evans caught two of the TDs to go along with 61 yards receiving. Chris Godwin added 83 yards and a score of his own, while rookie Jalen McMillanâs only catch was a touchdown.
Jayden Daniels, the No. 2 overall pick from Aprilâs draft, made his first career start. He threw for 184 yards on 17-of-24 passing. He also ran for 88 yards and two scores.

Bo Nix, making his first career start, threw for 138 yards on 26-of-42 passes, with two interceptions.
Broncos make it a one-score game against the Seahawks
Donât count out Denver just yet!
The Broncos are within six of the Seahawks after a Bo Nix touchdown run. Itâs the rookie Nixâs first career score.
Can Denver get the ball back in time to tie the game?
Buccaneers looking like a juggernaut against the Commanders
Itâs another Tampa Bay touchdown!
This time itâs a Baker Mayfield 1-yard pass to Mike Evans. Itâs Mayfieldâs fourth touchdown throw and Evansâ second receiving score.
Chargers win Jim Harbaughâs debut
We have a final in Los Angeles.
The Chargers won head coach Jim Harbaughâs debut with the team, beating the Raiders 22-10. It wasnât a particularly pretty game, but the win counts all the same.
Quarterback Justin Herbert completed 17 of 26 passes for 144 yards and one touchdown. J.K. Dobbins ran 10 times for 135 yards and a score, as well.
Baker Mayfield is dealing in Tampa Bay, throws third TD

Mayfield has now completed 21-of-27 passes for 256 yards and three TDs.
Chargers add to lead over Raiders
The Chargers are leading the Raiders 22-10 after a 10-yard pass from Justin Herbert to Ladd McConkey. Itâs McConkeyâs first career touchdown.
Oakland decided to punt on its previous drive despite facing a fourth-and-3, a nongamble that hasnât exactly paid off.
Seahawks push lead to double digits
Geno Smith finds Zach Charbonnet for 30 yards on a busted coverage, and the Seahawks now lead the Broncos 26-13.

Cleveland still trails 27-10.
Bucs extend lead on Commanders
Baker Mayfield flung a touchdown pass to Chris Godwin, and the Buccaneers now have a 23-7 lead over the Commanders.
Donât read this if youâre a Browns fan: Baker is 18-of-22 for 187 yards and two scores today.
Commanders kicking woes continue
Washington trails 16-7 in the third quarter against Tampa Bay but should be much closer. New kicker Cade York has missed two field goals today from 47 yards and 56 yards, respectively.
York was traded from Cleveland for a seventh-round pick in the 2025 draft after the Commanders released Brandon McManus. Not off to a great start.
Kavontae Turpin returns punt for Cowboys touchdown
Things are going from bad to worse for the Browns.
Kavontae Turpin just returned a punt for 60 yards and a score, giving the Cowboys an overwhelming 27-3 lead over Cleveland only a couple of minutes into the third quarter.
Chargers score their first touchdown of the season
J.K. Dobbinsâs 12-yard run gives the Chargers a 16-7 lead over the Raiders. Los Angeles had managed only three field goals up until Dobbinsâ TD.
Seahawks back on top of Broncos
A Kenneth Walker III 23-yard touchdown run gives the Seahawks a 16-13 lead over the Broncos. Walker has run for 72 yards on only 12 carries.
Penalty wipes out Cowboys' 66-yard field goal
The Cowboys would have connected on a 66-yard field goal today ... except they were called for delay of game before the kick could be official. Brandon Aubrey laced the attempt, though officials called it back.
It would have tied the NFL record the Baltimore Ravens' Justin Tucker set in 2021.
Dallas did not give him a chance to kick from 71 yards. The Cowboys lead the Browns 20-3 at halftime.
Hereâs where weâre at during the late-afternoon slate
Dallas is up 20-3 over the Browns with under a minute left in the second quarter. Deshaun Watson has not been good, at 6-for-13 for 33 yards and one interception, which led to a Cowboys field goal.
The Chargers are up 9-7 on the Raiders in the third quarter in a sleepy affair in Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh's return to the NFL.
The Buccaneers are beating the Commanders 17-6. Baker Mayfield is cooking.
The Broncos are beating the Seahawks 13-9 at halftime. They have two safeties and three field goals.
The Broncos have scored two safeties against the Seahawks
For the "Seahawks have never played a normal game" crowd, they just gave up a second safety against the Broncos.
Denver has an unconventional 10-9 lead thanks to two field goals in addition to the safeties.
Ezekiel Elliott scores in his Cowboys return
Ezekiel Elliott has scored in his first game to start his second stint with the Cowboys, punching in a touchdown from 3 yards out.

Mike Evans makes difficult catch for Buccaneers TD
How did Mike Evans catch this?
Whatever he had to do to make it happen, that catch has the Bucs leading the Commanders 13-0.
Police put second Dolphins player in handcuffs this morning

Miami trailed 17-3 but scored the last 17 points of the game for the win.
The Jaguars were winning 17-3 when Travis Etienne fumbled into the end zone, sparking the Miami comeback.
Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa went 23-of-37 for 336 yards and one touchdown, an 80-yard connection with Tyreek Hill.

Bears get first touchdown of the season via blocked punt
The Bears finally have a touchdown!
After a blocked punt, Jonathan Owens (also knows as Simone Bilesâs husband) scooped and scored, bringing Chicago to within seven of the Titans.
Tennessee still leads 17-10.
Itâs not looking good for Bryce Young
The Panthers are trailing the Saints 30-3, and second-year quarterback Bryce Young is 6-of-14 for 50 yards and two interceptions.
Any hopes of Young looking competent in his second season are going to have to wait another week, at least.
Bills tie it up in Buffalo
The Bills have scored 14 points straight, tying the Cardinals at 17 in Buffalo.
On their first drive of the second half, the Bills went 60 yards in 10 plays, capped off by a Mack Hollins 11-yard touchdown catch.
Josh Allen is 10-of-11 for 134 yards and a touchdown.
Upset alerts at halftime: Bengals, Bills, Dolphins sweating it out
The Bengals, Bills and Dolphins all entered Week 1 as home favorites. All are currently losing.
Cincinnati is down 10-0 at half to the Patriots. Buffalo is losing 17-10 to the Cardinals. And Miami trails Jacksonville 14-7 under the two-minute warning.
The Bears, also a home favorite but perhaps a little less heralded otherwise, are losing 17-3 to the Will Levis-led Titans. No. 1 pick Caleb Williams still hasnât been able to lead Chicago to a touchdown.
Titans running it up on the Bears
The Titans are up 17-0 on the Bears in the second quarter after 17-yard touchdown reception by Chig Okonkwo.

Jacksonville has dominated on both sides of the ball so far. Trevor Lawrence is 6-of-9 for 82 yards and a touchdown.
Cardinals take 17-3 lead over the Bills
The Cardinals are up two touchdowns on the Bills after a James Conner three-yard touchdown run to make it 17-3.
All three Arizona drives have ended in Bills territory and theyâve scored on every possession. The Cardinals have two drives that lasted longer than seven minutes, as their offense has been able to move the ball consistently.
Kyler Murray is 16-of-19 for 130 yards.
Sam Darnold is cooking the Giants
The Vikings are up 14-3 on the Giants, and Sam Darnold is dealing.
Darnold, who is starting after a season-ending injury to rookie J.J. McCarthy, is 10-of-10 for 136 yards and a touchdown.
Minnesotaâs most recent score came off a three-yard pass to Justin Jefferson on 4th-and-2 to complete a 99-yard drive. It was the team's first 99-yard touchdown drive since 2008.
Stefon Diggs has his first Texans touchdown
Stefon Diggs caught a nine-yard touchdown pass for his first score as a Texan, and for Houstonâs first touchdown of the season.
The Texans couldnât convert a two-point attempt, but they now lead the Colts 12-7.
Diggs was traded to Houston in the offseason from the Buffalo Bills.
No touchdowns for Bears, Caleb Williams after one quarter
The Bears trail the Titans 7-0 after one quarter.
No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams is only 3-for-6 with 5 yards, unable to provide any offensive heroics in his first official quarter of professional action.
Saints blowing out the Panthers early
New Orleans is up 17-0 after a Derek Carr touchdown pass to Foster Moreau.
Bryce Young is 0-for-2 with an interception for Carolina.
Malik Nabers gets his first catch
Highly-touted rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers dropped his first target of his career, but caught a 25 yard pass from Giants quarterback Daniel Jones on the very next play for a first down.
On the next play, Nabers â who was the sixth pick in the draft â caught it again for four yards.
Jaguars take 7-0 lead over Dolphins
After starting on their own 4-yard-line, the Jaguars marched all the way down the field for a touchdown against the Dolphins.
They were aided by a Jalen Ramsey pass interference in the endzone. Jacksonville scored on the next play, a one-yard touchdown run by Tank Bigsby.
Coltsâ Anthony Richardson throws absolute bomb for touchdown
Look at how far Anthony Richardson threw this pass!
The Colts are now up 7-3 on the Texans.
Josh Allen has his first turnover of the season
After a Cardinals score on their opening drive, the Billsâ first drive of the season ends...in a Josh Allen turnover.
Allen â who has the most turnovers by a quarterback in the past four seasons â was strip-sacked on first down while Buffalo was driving inside Arizona territory.
The Cardinals take over leading 7-0.
Cardinals on the board in Buffalo
On third-and-goal, Kyler Murray scrambled in the backfield before finding Michael Wilson in the endzone for a touchdown. Arizona leads the Bills 7-0.
Nice first drive for the Cardinals, who took over seven minutes off the clock.
Will Carolina bounce back in Bryce Young's second year?
Young, the No. 1 pick in the 2023 draft, is entering his second NFL season after a tough rookie campaign. Young was sacked 62 times as a rookie (which tied a franchise record) and had just 11 passing touchdowns with 10 interceptions in 16 starts.
Part of his issue was a bad supporting cast. Carolina added to the offensive line this offseason by signing guards Robert Hunt from Miami and Damien Lewis from Seattle. They also bolstered the receiving corps with Diontae Johnson from Pittsburgh and picking Xavier Legette in the first round.
He'll have a tough matchup against the Saints, who are 11-4 in their last 15 games against the Panthers.
We have our first score of Sunday!
Derek Carr launched a 59-yard touchdown pass to Rashid Shaheed for our first touchdown of the Sunday slate.
Weâre off!
The 1 p.m. ET games have kicked off, and weâre here for the full slate of Sunday games. Letâs see who gets on the board first!
Giants special uniforms today
They're known as Big Blue but on Week 1, the New York Giants are wearing "Century Red" to commemorate their 100th season.
Is Will Levis the real deal?
The Titans QB showed flashes of stardom last season as a rookie however consistency was a major issue. Levis threw four touchdowns in his NFL debut against the Falcons but struggled the rest of year with four scores to eight turnovers in his final eight starts.
Tennessee squares off on the road in Chicago in Week 1.
Texans no longer flying under the radar
The Texans greatly exceeded expectations last season, making the playoffs and having their first winning season for the first time since 2019. Much of that is thanks to their quarterback, Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud, who threw for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns and only five interceptions.
Stroud, who already had top rising WRs in Nico Collins and Tank Dell, will also have veteran Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs, who was traded this offseason from Buffalo.
Houston will face a Colts team that went 9-8 last season under Shane Steichen.

Anthony Richardson...legit or not?
The Colts QB, a first-round pick in 2023, was dominant in four games last season. He had seven total touchdowns (three passing, four rushing) but could not stay on the field because of a concussion and shoulder injuries.
If he can stay on the field, he's one of the most dynamic players in the league. But that's a big if. His matchup Sunday with the Texans could be a hint of what to expect this season.
Where the early money is headed
Here are the five most bet-on games so far on DraftKings:
- Jaguars at Dolphins
- Cardinals at Bills
- Texans at Colts
- Patriots at Bengals
- Rams at Lions
Vikings hope Darnold is enough
New Vikings QB Sam Darnold took over for Kirk Cousins (Falcons) this offseason, and he's no sure bet to succeed. The veteran signal-caller is on his fourth team since being drafted out of USC in 2018.
While Darnold's consistency has been an issue, he could thrive for one simple reason: he has arguably the top wideout in the NFL to throw to in Justin Jefferson.
Jefferson signed a 4-year, $140 million deal ($35 million/year). The three-time Pro Bowler has at least 1,000 receiving yards in all four of his NFL seasons.
Minnesota faces the Giants on Sunday.
Kendrick Lamar will perform the Super Bowl halftime show
The losses keep coming for Drake. Kendrick Lamar was announced as the performer for the Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX.
Russell Wilson reportedly out for Steelers with Justin Fields starting against the Falcons
Cowboys, Dak Prescott agree to record deal
Coming in right under the wire of their season opener. the Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott have agreed to a new four-year, $240 million deal, with $231 million guaranteed, per multiple reports.
The deal will make Prescott the highest-paid player in NFL history. He was entering the final season of his current contract before reaching this agreement with Dallas.
Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill detained before game
Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was detained by police before Miamiâs season opener against the Jaguars on Sunday, his agent confirmed to ESPN.
Hill was detained for a traffic violation. But he was released and will still play Sunday.
The team confirmed the incident and said several other players witnessed the incident.
Steelers unsure which QB will start
The Steelers signed veteran QB Russell Wilson this offseason from Denver but he's listed as questionable with a calf injury.
âI am sure we will see on Sunday,â Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said Friday. âRuss is pretty resilient when it comes to those things. Heâs been that way throughout his career. Like Iâve said, weâve prepared for all of their stuff and all the avenues. Weâll be ready for how it goes.â
If Wilson is unable to suit up, former Bears QB Justin Fields could get the start. The speedy Fields rushed for 657 yards last season, which could present problems for the Falcons' defense on Sunday.
Questions surrounding Cincinnati's offense
The Bengals, when healthy, boast one of the best offenses in the NFL. The problem is we're not so sure they are 100%.
QB Joe Burrow, one of the rising stars in the NFL, suffered a season-ending wrist injury last season. How much, if at all, will that affect his play in 2024?
His best friend and star WR Ja'Marr Chase is the other question. He didnât practice at all this offseason while seeking a new contract. His status for Week 1 against the Patriots is âday-to-dayâ the Bengals.
The NFL is letting players wear guardian caps, an extra protective cover over helmets, to keep players heads safer. The padding slips over the helmet to soften impacts by up to 33% according to the manufacturer. NBC Newsâ Sam Brock details how players are responding.Â
Did the Bears finally find their QB?
Chicago chose USC star Caleb Williams at No. 1 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft and believe he is the savior of a franchise who badly needs one.
Coach Matt Eberflus' future could depend on whether he succeeds or not as a rookie. Chicago was 7-10 last season, its third straight season of missing the playoffs and having a losing record.
âWhen we took the job⦠We knew the process was going to be difficult," he said in March. "Now weâre in year 3 and weâre starting to add the talent⦠weâre in a good spot.â
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell speaks exclusively to "TODAY" about the upcoming NFL season and what to expect from the first NFL game being played in South America. He also talks about the new guardian helmets and whether he notices a âTaylor Swift effectâ on the game.
