We write about hundreds of products every week. Here, in our version of the Sunday circular, we’ve plucked some of our recent favorites: expert-recommended essentials, life-changing stuff you didn’t know you needed, newly launched gizmos, and very good deals we uncovered while trawling the vast online-shopping universe — including the pen Abbi Jacobson is hooked on right now, Nicola Peltz Beckham’s key to surviving a weekend with her in-laws, and the approachable retinol that changed one writer’s skin overnight.

A pack of non-boring bandages beloved by Linda Rodin

Since stylist and beauty entrepreneur Linda Rodin discovered royal-blue bandages in England 38 years ago, she has been collecting the most interesting ones she can find. This pack includes ten neon bandages “in a knuckle shape, which wraps around your hands better.” Plus their close proximity to your fingernails makes the bandages ideal for matching your nail polish — intentionally or not. As Rodin says, “We all use our hands constantly, so if I have to look at a bandage all day, I may as well look at something sweet.”

An all-romance bookstore’s recommendation for sports romance

Valentine’s Day may be over, but the season of love continues (along with the romance-genre renaissance). To help you traverse the genre, writer Tembe Denton-Hurst turned to the home of all things romance, the Ripped Bodice, an all-romance bookstore, and interviewed its booksellers about the books they’re reading, hand-selling, and recommending. “Sports romances have blown up online in the past two years,” says bookseller F. Binta Barry, with hockey-themed novels being the most popular. A leader in the microgenre, the novel Icebreaker, follows Anastasia and Nathan, a figure skater and hockey player, respectively, forced to share the ice. Denton-Hurst says the novel features “rivals to lovers as well as forced proximity, two tropes that are known to produce steamy results.”

One writer’s snow-friendly skirt

Alison Freer learned about this down-filled skirt on a film set one snowy day, and it has since become her “ride-or-die cold-weather BFF.” While Skhoop has skirts ranging in style from mini to ankle length, Freer opts for the midi-length that hits right at her knee. “Giant puffy coats are outfit killers, so the ability to wear a regular waist-length coat and just slide on the snow skirt as needed when walking or working outdoors is a revelation,” Freer says.

Bows for your toes

From Sandy Liang’s beloved Baggu bag to Loeffler Randall’s embroidered ballet flats, bows are everywhere lately. In a roundup of new items that are sure to sell out, we included Deco Beauty’s on-trend, non-fussy nail-art stickers, featuring bows of various colors, strawberries, hearts, and even more coquette-inspired designs.

The pen Abbi Jacobson is hooked on right now

As a “big every-day to-do-list person,” comedian Abbi Jacobson goes through phases of having a favorite pen. But for the past couple years, she hasn’t been able to live without this 0.3-mm. pen that “feels more intentional because of the way that it’s shaped,” she told us. “It just has such a nice line.”

The jacket prized by a self-proclaimed fleece purist

From $104

Brand consultant and stylist Laurel Pantin, who writes the shopping newsletter Earl Earl, says Patagonia’s Synchilla anorak in navy is her all-time-favorite fleece jacket. “I like Patagonia’s company ethics, and I also like that this looks like what an ’80s Connecticut dad would wear — my aesthetic,” she says.

The approachable retinol that changed one writer’s skin overnight

During her late teens and early 20s, Mbiye Kasonga went through cycles of clear skin and acne that left dark spots behind. Then she discovered Epi.logic, a skin-care company started by oculofacial plastic surgeon Dr. Chaneve Jeanniton. Kasonga gravitated toward Epi.logic’s Double Feature retinol because it’s specifically formulated for Black and sensitive skin. Plus, she says, “the deep-purple bottle adorned with polka dots made this product feel approachable.” After just one use, she says, “my skin looked noticeably brighter. My hyperpigmentation was still there, but my skin felt soft to the touch and had less of the dullness I was used to.” Within three weeks, her dark marks started to fade and her skin became smoother.

Nicola Peltz Beckham’s key to surviving a weekend with her in-laws

According to actress Nicola Peltz Beckham, a preference for keeping the house cold — 60 degrees cold — runs in the Beckham family. As a Beckham by choice, rather than blood, Peltz Beckham doesn’t share this preference and can’t live without this faux-fur heating pad. When she stays with her in-laws, “this is a must because I cannot sleep at that temperature. I feel like I’m sleeping in a freezer.” At home, her husband, Brooklyn, also keeps the temperature low, so Peltz Beckham always keeps this heating pad with her.

A cream blush that actually lasts all day

Our beauty columnist, Rio Viera-Newton, tested 20 cream blushes to find one that actually lasts, and she crowned Danessa Myricks’s Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder the champion. “The high pigment in conjunction with the soft, powdery finish, I suspect, is what makes this blush really stick to the skin — I applied this at 8 a.m. and couldn’t believe when, nearly seven hours later, I came home with pretty much the same amount of blush I’d applied that morning,” she writes. Viera-Newton tested two of the six shades available, a hot pink called “It Girl” and a plum color named “Dancing Queen,” which, she says, “both gave my skin a soft, natural-looking flush, like I’d come back from a walk on a cold winter morning.”

The “Goldilocks of jeans”

This holiday weekend is a great time to score a deal, and we’ve rounded up all the best Presidents’ Day sales for you, including this pair of Levi’s, which we’ve called the “Goldilocks of jeans.” Several staffers own versions of the Ribcage Ankle jeans and like the high (12-inch) rise, straight cut, and the stiff-but-not-too-constricting feel. And right now, they’re 30 percent off.

The Strategist is designed to surface the most useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape.
