Speakeasy-esque bars are just catching on here, and there’s one in particular for those in the know. Housed in a 100-year-old building with only 48 seats, and accessible only via a nondescript alley or through a dark hallway off of Rieger Hotel Grill & Exchange, subterranean Manifesto requires texting in advance (816-536-1325) to put your name on the list. In turn, you’ll receive a secret code to get into the candlelit bar, where proper etiquette and proper libations, like the Smokin’ Choke (with Applewood, smoked Four Roses Bourbon, cynar, maple syrup, and Peychaud’s bitters; $11) are the rule.
