Candlelit Soirée

Ingrid Skjong & Noah Rothbaum

Astor Center
December 1, 2012

Editors Ingrid Skjong, 36, and Noah Rothbaum, 35, instantly hit it off after being introduced by a friend at the East Village bar PDT in 2008. “We had this hilarious conversation about how we should revolutionize emoticons,” says Ingrid. Nearly four years later, Noah proposed during a low-key lunch at Telepan on the Upper West Side. “Ingrid just happened to start talking about marriage,” he says. “So that’s when I pulled out the ring.” Their evening wedding was candlelit and featured the couple’s favorite libations, including an old-fashioned and a Moscow Mule mixed by cocktail consultant Willy Shine. Guests noshed family style on barbecue chicken from Blue Smoke before kicking the reception into full gear, dancing to everything from Brandy to Metallica. “At one point, our D.J. played “Gangnam Style,” and four guys I never thought would know that song went crazy,” says Ingrid. “I knew our wedding was going to be a great time, but I underestimated just how wonderful it would be until it was actually happening.”

“We didn’t write our own vows, but beforehand our rabbi had asked us to write a paragraph about one another and said she would only share one or two lines during the ceremony. She duped us and ended up reading the whole thing, so people heard it all.” Photo: Charlotte Jenks Lewis
