LOFTS & RAW SPACES


The Dumbo Loft

Built in 1891, this renovated 3,200-square-foot former coffee factory offers a rustic blank canvas for couples who want to mastermind their own décor. The vibe is industrial but warm, with exposed-brick walls, hardwood floors, and enormous windows that offer views of the neighborhood. A smaller space nearby, Dumbo Spot, can be rented for wedding ceremonies or cocktail hours. Prices upon request.

The Foundry

Artistic types love this restored former metal foundry, which can accommodate 165 for dinner or 180 for cocktails. Inspired touches such as chimneys visible through the main hall’s skylight, a cauldron transformed into a fountain, and lots of ivy in the courtyard lend the building its special character�it requires little or no additional decoration. From $7,000 to $12,000, depending on the season, plus an additional fee for use of the outdoor cobblestone courtyard, the terrace, and the greenhouse. The venue also requires couples use a recommended caterer.

Gary's Loft

The 4,500-square-foot penthouse of this two-story loft is fully furnished with American folk antiques and shabby-chic furniture. Three walls of windows on each floor and four skylights offer jaw-dropping views of the Empire State Building. From $6,600 to $9,800 for space rental; access to the roof deck for an additional $2,500.

The Glass Houses

These two spaces are more polished than most lofts, with floor-to-ceiling Hudson River views, shiny terrazzo floors, and state-of-the-art sound systems. Glasshouse 14 is 3,600 square feet; Glasshouse 21 is 3,400 square feet and has a terrace. Both can fit 200 for cocktails and up to 150 for a seated reception. Prices upon request.

The Green Building

With oodles of exposed brick, this romantic former brass foundry provides lots of space for creative couples to make their mark (including a 2,400-square-foot courtyard open year-round). It offers an extensive Brooklyn-based vendor list to choose from, including in-house furniture rentals, event-planning services, and more. The space can hold up to 250 for cocktails or 160 for dinner and dancing. Prices upon request. (good value)

Hudson Terrace

Couples in search of a sleek, sultry space with killer views seek out Hudson Terrace. The bilevel 10,000-square-foot venue is divided into an enclosed salon with an attached outdoor patio and a rooftop garden with a retractable roof. The space comes equipped with a stage for live bands, as well as three high-tech DJ booths. Prices upon request.

Kai Studio

This ultramodern 6,000-square-foot venue has 30-foot ceilings hung with white velour curtains and two large lounge areas. The studio can accommodate 350 guests for cocktails and up to 150 for a seated dinner. Prices upon request.

Kings County Distillery

Guests can chat over cocktails amid the ground floor’s fermentation tanks before heading upstairs to the rustic tasting room for dinner. Caterers must be prepared to work without a prep kitchen. The venue holds 150 for cocktails and 75 for a sit-down dinner. Prices start at $10,000.

Metropolitan Pavilion

Here you’ll find a plethora of spaces that can be transformed into rollicking party venues. Most start as minimalist lofts with high ceilings that may be sectioned off to accommodate 100 people for dinner or left open for a 1,565-person blowout cocktail party. Space rental runs from $6,000 to $20,750 plus cleaning fees; catering prices upon request.

Midtown Loft and Terrace

Exchange your vows while looking out at the Empire State Building on this 3,400-square-foot rooftop with a wraparound terrace. While the roof itself is an independent space (with retractable awning and an enclosed lounge equipped with a fireplace), couples often utilize the loft below for the reception. Four walls of windows provide a panoramic view. From $5,000.

The Powerhouse Arena

This 5,200-square-foot gallery and bookstore is just steps from the Brooklyn waterfront in one of the borough’s most picturesque neighborhoods. The sun-drenched arena features amphitheater-style seating and an ample lounge. Prices start at $8,500 for 150 seated guests, including use of the main space, lounge, and house sound and DJ equipment.

Ramscale Studios

Many a couple has happily wed in this popular 13th-floor studio, which offers panoramic city views and an expansive terrace that can be tented and heated during the cold months. The space can accommodate 100 people for a seated dinner. Prices start at $8,500 for Friday-night receptions and $9,500 on Saturdays. (good value)

Skylight Modern

This raw, cavernous interior, ideal for massive blowouts, offers 15,000 square feet of space with 18-foot ceilings. The venue is yours for the decorating and can comfortably fit 500 for a sit-down affair and 645 for cocktails. Events start at $29,000. Minimum two-day rental.

Studio 450

cocktails or 220 for a seated dinner. Its wraparound terrace, which boasts spectacular views of the Hudson River and midtown Manhattan, is a big draw. Movable walls make the space flexible enough to accommodate intimate gatherings or sizable fêtes and also separate the ceremony from the reception. From $6,000 to $10,000.

Union Square Ballroom

Recessed floor lighting gives this two-room space a modern feel, but couples can tailor it to suit their style. The 2,500-square-foot ballroom hosts up to 150 seated guests with a dance floor at a cost of $140 to $190 per person. A swank lounge connected to the ballroom is ideal for the cocktail hour.
