The New Jersey governor, who suffers from asthma and a well-publicized struggle with obesity, was admitted out of an “abundance of caution” says a spokesman, and is undergoing tests at central Jersey’s Somerset Medical Center.
Update: Christie is expected to be released early this evening after chest X-rays and an EKG appear to be normal. The incident, however, reminded everyone anew of the health risks associated with Christie’s weight; it’s been used against him as a cudgel by his political rivals in the past and probably will be again. Aside from obvious, genuine concern for Christie’s personal health, today’s incident wasn’t great news for Republicans who want Christie to run for president one of these elections soon.
