More than a week after April Fool’s Day, the Boston Globe tried its hand at satire by publishing a front page imagining the news under President Donald Trump. It was accompanied by a non-satirical editorial titled “The GOP must stop Trump,” just in case the joke was unclear.
The mock cover included scary (and believable) headlines like “DEPORTATIONS TO BEGIN: President Trump calls for tripling of ICE forces; riots continue,” “Markets sink as trade war looms,” and “US soldiers refuse orders to kill ISIS families,” as well as goofier items referring to a gold leaf NASA probe and Ambassador Kid Rock. Sure, the effort didn’t generate any Onion-worthy material, but maybe that’s too much to expect from a real newspaper.
