Amazon Prime Day 2022 is only days away — this year, the event is happening on July 12 and 13. But it’s not the only retailer to host a mega sale next week. Others are announcing savings events happening around the same time — Target’s Deal Days event, for instance, is taking place from July 11 to July 13.
Walmart typically hosts its Deals for Days sale to compete with Prime Day, but not this year. According to CNBC, the retailer won’t throw its own sale event to coincide with Prime Day 2022 — Walmart said a lot of its merchandise has been on sale for weeks already, in part to help clear out excess inventory.
While Walmart’s Deals for Days sale won’t be happening this July, we rounded up information about other alternative Prime Day sales and the Walmart+ membership, which may help you save during the holiday season later this year.
Other alternative Prime Day sales
Retailers like Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Macy’s and more traditionally host savings events around Prime Day “to try to siphon off a lot of that excitement and traffic,” Joseph Hansen, the founder and CEO of marketing agency Buy Box Experts, told us in our guide to Prime Day 2022. This gives shoppers multiple deals to compare Prime Day prices against in order to find the best one.
Shoppers are becoming increasingly aware of these alternative Prime Day sales, too. According to RetailMeNot, 19% of Americans plan to shop at other retailers on Prime Day this year and intend to spend $155 on average.Hansen said these competing sales are a “headwind” Amazon now has to face during a shopping period it usually dominates. Retailers’ alternative Prime Day sales are expected to be even bigger in 2022 compared to years past, both in terms of their size and overall presence in the retail space, he added.
Here are a few of alternative Prime Days sales we know are happening next week:
- Kohl’s: Up to 70% off select products during its Summer Cyber Deals event through July 13
- Macy’s: Up to 60% off select products during its Black Friday in July event through July 13
- Best Buy: Up to 50% off gaming laptops, small kitchen appliances, phones and more
- Bed Bath & Beyond: Up to 50% off sale and clearance items during its Beyond Big Sale through July 14
- Target: Deals on tech, home and kitchen products, apparel and more during its Deal Days event from July 11 to 13
Walmart+ membership
While Walmart may not be hosting a sale around Prime Day this year, you may want to consider the retailer’s Walmart+ membership to prepare for sales later this year during the holiday season. Walmart launched the membership in 2020, according to the retailer, and in 2021, Walmart+ members had early access to Walmart’s Black Friday Deals for Days sale. The retailer said the positive response it received from members about early access shopping inspired Walmart+ Weekend in 2022, which gave members multiple days of savings only they could access.
Walmart+ costs $98 for its annual plan or $13 monthly, and members get access to benefits like unlimited free deliveries on orders over $35, free next-day and two-day shipping and special member prices on fuel at Exxon, Mobil, Walmart, Murphy and Sam’s Club stations. Members can also utilize a mobile scan and go feature so they can pay as they shop in store.
