As a former fake blonde, I’ve become fluent in the art of air-drying my hair. Per the advice of my colorist Emaly Baum, I avoid any kind of hot tools — hair dryers and curlers and straighteners can dry out, weaken, or worse, cause breakage — unless it’s an extra-special occasion. But in the early days of my platinum era, I found air-drying miserable: without a blow dryer, my hair would dry frizzy, puffy, and broomlike. I also loathed sitting around with dripping wet hair for what seemed like ages after I showered.
I can’t for the life of me remember who first recommended the Aquis Hair Turban to me, but I’m eternally grateful to whomever it was. The turban truly — and I’m not being dramatic — changed my life. This little, $18 hair towel is made with something called “Aquiflex fiber,” a fabric that not only dries hair in less than half the time it takes your standard cotton towel to, but is so soft and gentle that it causes no additional frizz.
The first time I used this thing, I ran some Reverie Leave In Conditioner through the ends of my hair, then wrapped it up in this as I would with any old towel. I was meeting with friends later, so while waiting for my hair to dry, I applied some light skin care and did my makeup, all of which took about 20 minutes. I was prepared to bolt out the door with damp hair, but when I took the towel off, I realized mine was completely dry. And that’s not all: it was silky and smooth, with no frizziness. I sprayed a little of Ouai’s Wave Spray to add some texture and that was that: my hair looked perfect. I was shook.
To anyone who struggles with frizz or hates waiting around for their hair to dry: this towel is a must. And right now, it’s 15 percent off! So I suggest buying two or three, as I am this Cyber Monday. You won’t regret it.
