For better or for worse, as Strategist editors and writers, we cannot turn off our shopping brains. With “Saw Something, Said Something,” we’ll be writing about the tiniest of details that have caught our eye — status toothpaste in the background of Lizzo’s TikTok, a plant so rare it’s called a Birkin, or a specific face cream in a Roy sibling’s medicine cabinet.
If, like us, you’ve been keeping up with the royals, you’ve likely seen the news of the former princess Mako of Japan’s recent trek to Bed Bath & Beyond. She “joined in on the time-honored tradition shared by college students and Dreamers alike,” according to the Cut, by braving the aisles of home goods in search of apartment essentials. Her cart was filled with the usual suspects: linens, organizing bins, paper towels. But what stood out to us most was her choice of hangers.
As it turns out, Mako’s ORG Slim Grips hangers are exactly what a cramped NYC apartment closet needs. Of course, they’re slim (a must) and feature nonslip padding and chrome-plated hooks that swivel for multidirectional hanging. They can even hang damp clothes, in case you don’t have an in-unit dryer and need to air-dry. While we suspect Mako’s one-bedroom does have that particular luxury (her building’s amenities reportedly include a spa, a library, and a “golf simulator”), our hunch is that she’s as concerned about conserving closet space as the rest of us are. To give your own closet a royal revamp, purchase what shall henceforth be known as the Princess Mako Hanger Pack (of 16 for $15).
