For almost as long as the Strategist has been testing products, we’ve celebrated water flossers as a highly satisfying, effective solution for those who know they should be flossing, but hate the feeling (and the considerable effort) that comes with it. A replacement to traditional floss, water flossers instead allow you to use a powerful targeted stream of water to clean between your teeth — and while there are plenty of water flossers on the market, none seem to compete with those from Waterpik. Of the 29 dentists our reporters spoke to when researching the very best water flossers, 23 recommended models from the brand.
Because they’re the best, Waterpik’s flossers also tend to be among the more expensive. But this Prime Day, they’re the cheapest they’ve ever been. Take the Waterpik Aquarius, for example, which normally costs $100 but is available for less than half of that today. A classic of the format, it has ten pressure settings and a water tank big enough to run for 90 seconds. (That means it also takes up slightly more space, but it’s a sacrifice worth making for flossing power.)
If you’re still on the fence, consider that some experts even say using a Waterpik is not just an alternative to flossing but an improvement on it. Dr. Jill Lasky of Lasky Pediatric Dental in Studio City, California, explains that with regular floss, “many just put [it] between their teeth instead of making the recommended C-shape to ensure it properly contacts all surfaces of the teeth. Water flossers are less technique sensitive.”
