When I think of my perfect loungewear outfit, a robe is non-negotiable, no matter the weather. I don’t run particularly cold or warm most of the time, but I like the feeling of being snuggled. I also firmly believe that wearing robes in public should be a societal norm — held in the same space as hoodies, long cardigans, and light jackets — so my dream robe is one that is looks nice enough to wear out but is “lying on the couch”–level comfortable. A non-ugly Snuggie, if you will.
The Casper Blanket Robe has popped up in my feed a few times lately, in ads and the Instagram story of an editor friend. Known for its bedding (including Strategist-approved mattresses and pillows), Casper launched what the brand calls “Snoozewear” earlier this year, and the robe is part of that effort. I have worn other social-media-darling robes (including the Parachute Cloud robe) but the Blanket Robe caught my attention. The vibe was Slanket + puffer coat, but a lot more stylish — so I jumped on the offer when the brand asked if I wanted to try it for myself.
As soon as the Blanket Robe arrived, I was pleased to find it has a weighty yet breathable feel, thanks to its smooth cotton shell and polyfill stuffing. The wrap design with a single button closure actually made the “duvet as poncho” shape seem functional and surprisingly chic. Considering that it’s a literal Blanket meant to be worn as a Robe (in a similar vein to the much pricier Offhours Homecoat), it’s really quite handsome; the wide armholes, long shawl collar, and sculptural A-line shape even share DNA with understated designer looks like 7115 by Szeki’s Signature Unisex Sumo Puffer.
Obviously the idea of a wearable blanket is not revolutionary — in addition to Blanket Robe forebears like the Snuggie and the Slanket, there’s the faux sherpa-lined Comfy, which I also happen to own (and which is almost too warm to do anything in except sit). But I wouldn’t dare wear the Comfy out to get groceries or overspend at Target. The Blanket Robe is much more coat-like, with a drape-y fit that stays put on my narrow shoulders, and large patch pockets that easily hold heavier items like a phone without looking lumpy or unbalanced. Even when it’s unbuttoned, it stays in place without issue and feels cocoon-y but not too bulky.
I’ve had the Casper robe since the late spring and I live in balmy North Carolina, so I have yet to wear it further into public than my front lawn in the early morning. But once the weather shifts to cool, I have every intention of adding it to my rotation of sweaters and jackets. It comes in three neutral colors (indigo, oat milk, and white) and three sizes (small, medium, and large); I’m five-foot-ten, and my usual medium easily fits over clothes or pajamas and hits just above the knee. Though every robe in my thriving collection holds a special place in my lounging routine, the Casper Blanket Robe is my new favorite. It’s the one I grab whenever I want an extra layer of comfort at home — and it looks so nice I plan on wearing it out this fall, too.
