I Am a Profoundly Sweaty Sleeper, But These Sheets Keep Me Comfortable Year-round

I am a very sweaty person and an even sweatier sleeper. I’ve tried, and sweat through, all the classic types of bed sheets typically recommended for people who run hot — 100 percent cotton, percale, linen — and nothing has ever come close to the cooling relief of Ettitude’s Signature Sateen Sheets.

I’ll never forget the day I first heard about them, as it happened to be the day I got engaged. Shortly before my then-boyfriend proposed, I posted a question box on my Instagram soliciting recommendations for bedding that would stop me from waking up drenched. (I was anticipating a very different kind of evening.) It was a last-ditch effort before investing in one of those cooling sleep systems, which seemed to be the only surefire solution to my year-round sleep sweats. While Parachute’s popular linen sheets were airier than others I’d tried, I found they held on to sweat stains and looked too rumpled for my taste. Brooklinen’s and L.L.Bean’s percale options needed changing after just one night, plus both felt unexpectedly stiff. (Swapping all of my pajamas for Soma Cool Nights helped a bit, but not enough.)

Among the many suggestions I received, Ettitude caught my eye because it was the only brand I had never heard of. Still, I’d been disappointed, betrayed even, by too many sheets promising a dry night’s sleep. “Breathable” meant nothing anymore. “Temperature regulation” felt like a scam. Though Ettitude’s website echoed these claims, I was struck by the number of reviewers who admitted to their initial skepticism, only to now implore others to “just do it.” So I did — and as soon as I touched the fabric I could tell the sheets were different.

Made of 100 percent bamboo lyocell, they feel like a cross between cotton and silk, somehow crispy-cool and soft at the same time. While bamboo sheets are not new — and have long been recommended for sweaty sleepers because of their natural moisture-wicking and thermoregulating properties — they are often made of bamboo viscose, a more common type of bamboo fabric. (This turned out to be the case with other bamboo sheets I’d already tried and abandoned, from Quince, Cozy Earth, and the Amazon best-seller Bedsure.)

But bamboo lyocell is relatively new, and Ettitude is one of the few brands using it. Not only is it more sustainable to produce than bamboo viscose, it’s softer and stronger too. It does have a better-known cousin, a type of lyocell that comes from eucalyptus instead of bamboo (you may be familiar with its brand name, Tencel), but having tried sheets that contain the eucalyptus version (from brands like Buffy and Sheets & Giggles), I’ve found the difference in Ettitude’s quality, feel, and performance to be noticeable.

As someone who has frequently slept on a towel to avoid changing my sheets multiple times per week, I am genuinely astonished every morning when I wake up sweat free. I first tried the Signature Sateen sheets in March, and in the last six months I’ve replaced every other sheet I own, as well as my duvet cover, with Ettitude. When I first browsed them online I thought the sheets might be a bit shiny, but they actually look better in person — and they come in some of the prettiest colors and patterns I’ve found. Canyon, an earthy red, is my favorite so far (I also have Slate, and my duvet is Slate Stripes). And at $229 for a queen-size set that includes a fitted sheet, flat sheet, and two pillowcases, its price is comparable to or cheaper than a lot of top brands. (Plus, the company was certified Climate Neutral in 2021, and boasts some incredible sustainability and hiring initiatives.)

Ettitude offers a 30-day sleep trial on your first purchase, though I doubt you’ll be returning anything. I’ve now recommended these sheets to countless friends and have yet to receive anything less than a purely enthusiastic review. Both sweaty and non-sweaty sleepers alike have commented about their luxurious feel, with one friend remarking that she “can’t place it. They just feel different and amazing.” The sheets have thousands of five-star reviews, with accolades ranging from “the softest sheets I’ve ever owned” to “you will not be disappointed by these sheets if you’re looking for perfection.” One reviewer even boldly claimed they are “worth the capitalism!” I concur. So does my fiancé.
