The 8 Best Prostate Massagers

If you haven’t already, it’s time to add a prostate massager to your sex-toy rotation. While I don’t have a prostate myself, I’ve been on the sex-toy beat for several years now and have extensively researched just about every category of toy out there and have also talked with dozens of experts, many of whom stressed how much fun there is to be had with prostate play. For those who need to brush up on their anatomy, the prostate is a walnut-size gland that can be found about two inches inside the rectum and is chock-full of super-sensitive nerve endings. “The P-spot can give you a different kind of orgasm than regular ejaculation,” explains Samantha Bard, co-owner of the Williamsburg sex shop and event space Shag, whom I’ve tapped for just about every sex-toy story I’ve ever written since she’s so well versed in the category. One of the best ways to stimulate it is with a prostate massager. Now, there’s a range of prostate massagers out there: There are dildos and wands; some vibrate, some don’t, but the main thing they have in common is they usually are curved in some way to really target that hot spot. Below, find seven of the very best prostate massagers on the market. And if you need some lube to go along with your new toy (which, trust me, you do), I have a list of the best of the best lubes here.

What we’re looking for

Material

You want to make sure you’re investing in toys that are made of high-quality, body-safe materials. Body-safe materials — which include silicone, glass, metals like stainless steel, and ABS plastic — are nonporous, so they are less likely to harbor harmful bacteria or viruses and are therefore more hygienic.

Speed

The more levels of speed a vibrator has, the more opportunity there is to experiment to find what works best for your body. Keep in mind that if you are more sensitive, you may only need to play around with the lower levels, while those who need stronger vibrations will need a toy with higher settings.

Patterns

Like intensity, vibrators often have different patterns that will impact the types of sensations you can experiment with to find what works best for your body.

Vibrating vs. non-vibrating

While some people love vibration, others may find it to be too intense, so I’ve included a good mix of both that will still stimulate your prostate.

Best prostate massagers overall

Material: Silicone, ABS plastic | Speed: 3 speeds | Patterns: 7 patterns | Vibrating vs non-vibrating: Vibrating

Lelo’s vibrating prostate massagers are definitely a favorite amongst sexperts and consumers alike due to their strong, rumbly vibrations and pleasing design. The Hugo has a double motor — one in the prostate part, and one underneath for the perineum. (The perineum, for those who might not know, is the area between the testicles and butt.) The perineum massager, in addition to providing lots of fun sensation, also helps to keep the toy in place, if you want to keep it in during sex with a partner. The updated Hugo 2 features a longer battery life and two additional patterns when connected to the accompanying app that allows you to customize the motors and hand over the controls to your partner anywhere in the world (making it great for long-distance couples as well as single people). The remote also features the brand’s SenseMotion™ technology, which allows you to intensify or reduce the vibrations by tilting the remote. For a savings of $40, you can also opt for the Hugo 2 without a remote that still grants you app compatibility.  Lateef Taylor, whose opinion I trust as a pleasure-based sex educator and kink trainer, says “It’s accessible to people who are exploring for the first time as well as those who are more experienced and desire more stimulation.”

Best (less-expensive) prostate massager

$100

Material: Silicone, ABS plastic | Speed: 3 speeds | Patterns: 5 patterns | Vibrating versus non-vibrating: Vibrating

Another great option from Lelo is the Billy prostate massager. Unlike the Hugo above, the Billy only stimulates the prostate, not the perineum. While it doesn’t offer as much stimulation, it does have the same range of vibration settings, so it’s still a great toy for those who only want a prostate massager. It’s also slightly less complicated than the toy above and cheaper, so it’s a good choice for anyone just starting to explore.

Best prostate massagers for beginners

Material: Silicone | Speed: 0 speeds | Patterns: 0 patterns | Vibrating vs non-vibrating: Non-vibrating

Before making sex toys, Aneros designed medical devices for prostate stimulation, so it’s a true expert in the space. While the non-vibrating MGX Trident may seem a bit old-fashioned, especially compared to the high-tech Lelo toys above, Andy Duran, whose knowledge I can depend on as an educational outreach coordinator at sex-toy retailer Good Vibes, says it “just links up perfectly, anatomically, to press the prostate.” The tapered tip makes it easy to experiment with insertion, so it’s super accessible for anyone who is looking to buy a beginner anal toy.

Best non-vibrating prostate massagers

Material: Surgical steel | Speed: 0 speeds | Patterns: 0 patterns | Vibrating vs non-vibrating: Non-vibrating

The Njoy Pure Wand is a classic in the category and makes an excellent prostate and G-spot toy, due to its handsome sculptural design and sleek stainless-steel construction. Its curved shape allows you to enjoy long self-pleasure sessions without any arm cramping. The weighty balls at either end provide a firm pressure against the prostate, and the toy can be fun for exploring temperature play, by running it under warm or cool water before inserting.

Best anal plug

Material: Surgical steel | Speed: 0 speeds | Patterns: 0 patterns | Vibrating vs non-vibrating: Non-vibrating

If you’d prefer a plug over a wand, Njoy makes very nice options. Unlike some other plugs, the Pfun is designed with a curve to best reach the prostate. Like the Pure Wand above, the Pfun is also made out of hefty surgical steel, so it can provide a nice amount of pressure on the prostate, which is something a lot of people find very arousing.

Best anal plug for beginners

Material: Surgical steel | Speed: 0 speeds | Patterns: 0 patterns | Vibrating vs non-vibrating: Non-vibrating

If you’re looking for something a little smaller, the Pure plug has an easy-to-insert, teardrop shape with a curved head that should provide targeted stimulation to the prostate. Like its big brothers above, the Pure Plug’s heavy steel body creates a sensation of fullness once inserted and is a good choice for anyone looking to explore temperature play.

Best dildo

Material: Silicone | Speed: 0 speeds | Patterns: 0 patterns | Vibrating vs non-vibrating: Non-vibrating

If you prefer a traditional dildo, Vixen Creations’ are some of the best on the market due to their extremely realistic feel. The trick is the dual-density silicone: The toy is soft to the touch but has a heavier, firmer core you can feel once you give it a squeeze. Plus, the angled, curved head will hit your prostate just right. And Vixen toys come with a lifetime warranty, so you can depend on their long-lasting quality.

Best anal beads

Lelo Soraya Vibrating Beads

$172

Material: Silicone, ABS plastic | Speed: 3 speeds | Patterns: 5 patterns | Vibrating versus non-vibrating: Vibrating

While anal beads are not explicitly prostate massagers the way the other toys on this list are, Lelo’s recently launched vibrating beads are a fun new category to explore that offers plenty of sensation to the P-spot. Not only does it have eight different vibration modes, but what makes this toy special is something called “bow-motion” technology. Basically, the vibrations begin at the base of the toy and cascade up through each bead, to keep the sensations consistent throughout the toy and simulate a thrusting sensation without having to actually move the toy once it’s inside.
