If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what famous people add to their carts. Not the JAR brooch and Louis XV chair, but the hand sanitizer and the electric toothbrush. We asked K-pop star Jackson Wang — whose first solo album, Mirrors, is available now — about the blender, vitamins, and nasal spray he can’t live without.
I work out a lot and make sure I do my cardio every day. For exercising, you need to maintain your nutrition and proteins, and I’ll usually eat some chicken breast, a lot of greens, maybe some milk, and some fruits. Then I just thought to myself, Why don’t I put everything in the blender? Because when you eat it, it goes into your stomach and it’s going to be the same anyways. So I use this blender to mix everything and drink it. My protein shake every morning is an orange, chicken breast, greens, maybe cabbage or spinach, and then an apple and banana. I know it might sound disgusting, but it’s actually a good smoothie. I have it first thing when I wake up.
I’m always out of town, touring and flying to different countries and events. It’s not very convenient to bring the blender around to make my smoothie, so in the morning I’ll just drink water instead. A lot of water, to flush everything out. I’ll drink probably a liter on an empty stomach. I sip it for an hour.
It’s good for your throat; it’s like the honey of China. I always keep it in my bag because I don’t know when I’ll need it. I take it straight, I don’t mix it with anything. It tastes like a bunch of berries, like blueberries and raspberries. It’s sweet and very condensed. If I have a concert tomorrow, I’ll take it the night before.
I’ll get sick once in a while, and it’s always because of my respiratory system. The doctor said that my respiratory system is just weak. He suggested that I try a natural sea-salt nostril spray, and it really worked. I don’t get as sick as often now. I always carry it in my bag, and it’s under 100 milliliters, so you can bring it anywhere you travel. It cleans out all of the dust from the day. I use it in the morning before I leave the house and I use it before bed, just to clean all of the dust out. [Editor’s note: The Pharmed Sea Salt Nasal Spray that Wang uses is not currently available, but this is a close alternative.]
Working in the entertainment industry, there’s no nighttime, there’s no holiday, there’s no vacation, there’s no Monday, there’s no Sunday. There’s no specific time zone. There’s no lunchtime, sometimes. There’s no dinner. There’s just no time standard in this business, which means you’re going to have a weak immune system. For those who already have a weak immune system, you’ll get sick even more often. In order to be healthy, I need to have all the supplements that help maintain my good health. I take vitamin C every morning, but sometimes I’ll stop for like a week — I did my research, and it said that taking too many supplements is not really good for your liver. It’s always about the balance. For me, it’s nostril spray and then supplements, working out, sweating and detox-ing my body, and then sleep. I’m just trying to be healthy because I want to survive longer as an artist. I want to go longer, and in order to do that you need a good body and good health conditions.
When I travel, I always bring a sweater or hoodie around with me. And nowadays, it happens to be the Mirrors merch. I designed all of the pieces myself, actually, and hope people like them as much as I do.
