If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what famous people add to their carts. Not the JAR brooch and Louis XV chair but the hairspray and the electric toothbrush. We asked musician Joji — who this week released a new single, Gimme Love, and announced that his second album, Nectar, will drop in July — about the socks, deodorant, and DVD he can’t live without.
I can be pretty clumsy. I will hit parts of my body on things, and I’m also clumsy with my hands, so I get cuts here and there. I’m not a germaphobe, but having an open wound isn’t great, so I always make sure I have some good old Band-Aids on me. I’ve tried experimenting with a few other brands, but these are my go-to.
It’s not my favorite movie, but it is a movie that’s perfect to bust out if you’re at home and there’s nothing to do or no internet. It’s not Spielberg, but it’ll have everyone laughing. Also, it’s funny to see people’s reactions when you pull a DVD out of a backpack in 2020. I’ve watched it 30 to 35 times.
I’ve always been kind of frugal. I enjoy iPods and stuff, but at the end of the day, I think the music sounds the same. Also: I feel like if one of your songs sounds good on the cheapest MP3 player out there, then it’s going to sound at least as good on everything else. Three songs on my MP3 player right now are “Christopher Walking” by Pop Smoke, “Protect Da Brand” by Moneybagg Yo and DaBaby, and “Summo” by Young Dolph.
It’s got bad stuff in it but, low key, it really lasts. It’s probably because of the chemicals that screw up your armpits, but I can push through a lot of things with this on. I’ve used it for the last five, six years. Before that I was using Arm and Hammer deodorant; it was great, but Degree is the move. I’m not good with smells, but I’m sniffing this right now: It smells industrial, like fresh soap, a little pine-y.
The MPK Mini is good for beginners: Anybody could use it to get more of a physical grasp on the music they’re making. It comes with a little keyboard, so you don’t have to be hunched over your laptop, and it’s small so you can set it up anywhere. When I was looking for something that would be easy to carry around, I Googled “cheapest MPC” and this one popped up. I’ve been using it for about a year and a half.
I’ve been wearing these my whole life. They’re very comfy and kind of thick. I ruin stuff very easily, and I lose things very easily, which is why I go for the cheaper stuff. Socks are my number-one lost item. But if I lose a pair of Hanes, I know I only paid a couple bucks for it, so I’m not going to lose too much sleep.
I often forget to eat, so I always keep jerky and nuts around. The Planters nuts are just nice, I love the taste of them. And even though the beef jerky is mostly salt and nasty stuff, it’s nice having it on hand to kick me through the day if I need it. The nuts are better for me, but the jerky will get me moving.
