What Diptyque Creative Director Myriam Badault Can’t Live Without

If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what famous people add to their carts. Not the JAR brooch and Louis XV chair, but the hand sanitizer and the electric toothbrush. We asked Myriam Badault, the creative director of Diptyque, about the pens, loafers, and hair brush she can’t live without.

Toothpaste is not a very exciting thing, but Marvis is quite an old brand, and it has a big selection of flavors. The jasmine mint one is really surprising because you don’t imagine that it would be nice — but it’s a lovely floral flavor, and it reminds me of those crushed seeds and nuts that restaurants give you at the end of a meal. The toothpaste reminds me of that taste. I love to use it at the end of the day; it’s a very nice and refined product.

To me, these are the best pens in the world. I have a full jar of them; I have ten or twelve colors. I like that they’re not too thin or too thick. They’re very cheap and you can find them anywhere.

It’s one of my favorite gifts to give to children. You put the coin on the box, and then the box opens and a little kitten comes out and steals the coin. It’s really cute, and it’s fun for children to use.

Ballet is one of my favorite kinds of entertainment, if you can call it that. In Paris, it’s very special to go to the Opéra — that’s something I really love. My favorites are La Bayadere, Le Las Des Cygnes, and Romeo and Juliette. I love to see interpretations done by an incredible dancer like Nureyev [in the DVDs]. I think they make a very nice gift; they’re something I like to share with people of younger generations.

I’ve been using this since brush I was a teenager. My grandmother had some, and now it feels like a tradition. Sometimes I think it’s insane to pay this price for a brush, so I’ve looked for others. But I always come back to this one because the quality of it is unique.

I am a great fan of Sisley’s face care products. I’m very taken with the history and philosophy of the brand — it was really one of the only brands to look into how to use plants in products, and which plants have which benefits. It was a completely new approach. The Emulsion Ecologique is a quite simple formulation, it’s healthy and you can blend it with other products if you’d like to.

My boys say I am a dinosaur — nobody has an iPod any more! I have all my music on it. I have so many albums on my device — it’s like a memory of the past fifteen years. I don’t want to lose that. It’s really special, and reminds me of some of the special moments and the music from that time. What I love the most is doing shuffle and having a mix of everything. You don’t know what you’ll listen to next.

Last winter, I was staying at the Standard in Miami, and Sabah had a pop-up in the hotel. They were selling these shoes, so I bought some there. They’re so comfortable and easy to wear. I got the blue ones, and then a gold pair. They’re made in a special workshop, so sometimes you don’t have all of the colors available at one time. I like that they don’t overproduce.

I’ve been obsessed with this brand – which uses vintage Italian print and fabrics – for a few years. It is original and elegant. If you don’t like prints and colors, then it’s not for you, but I love it for me. It’s very unique, the prints are amazing.

I have always been a musk fragrance addict. Starting with the Body Shop white musk as a teen, then Mure et Musc from L’artisan Parfumeur, and then I discovered the Kiehl’s musk while traveling in New York, which I also love. The Fleur de Peau eau de parfum was a special project for me. I designed Fleur de Peau for me, choosing each ingredients and blending musk with iris and ambrette seeds. For me it is a very personal and sophisticated fragrance. The secret a hint of musky baby powder.
