If you’ve found that last year’s coat (or sweater or scarf) isn’t keeping out this winter’s chill, I’ve spent some time digging around the internet’s sales bins to find deals to keep you toasty. Luckily, there are actually quite a lot of nice-looking warm things on sale right now, including Everlane puffers for 70 percent off, faux-fur-lined Merrells, and flannel bedding from Parachute. Scroll on to find my picks for bundling up without breaking the bank. And for even more daily deals, be sure to sign up for the Strategist Sales Alert.
The “forever relevant” Denali fleece jacket is one of the best you can get for under $200.
Another of our favorites from North Face, the down-filled Nuptse, is on sale in plus sizes at REI.
This recycled-down bomber is even cheaper now than it was last week — 70 percent off (it was 60 percent off earlier this month). Its key feature is a two-way zipper.
I wore an older version of this butt-covering puffer on a very cold trip to northern Sweden in December a few years ago.
A very select number of Aritzia’s Super Puff jackets are on sale for 30 percent off, which is just about the best deal you’ll ever find on them. Sizing and colors are quite limited, but this slightly cropped option still has most sizes available in the discounted colors (powder pink, pale gray, and burgundy).
If you can’t find an on-sale coat in a color you like, the matching mittens are a cute consolation prize!
Two Strategist staffers own a version of this cloudlike option from Uniqlo. It has “roomy arms that make it perfect for wearing over chunky sweaters — like my Babaàs with raglan sleeves that usually bunch in my other coats,” says writer Lauren Ro.
And a lovely lilac option from our best-in-class vests for women guide that’s only $37.
Primary’s machine washable puffer jacket is delightfully retro.
Here’s an option that’s less heavy-duty — and comes in a rainbow of colors!
In rare form for Cotopaxi, I found a (relatively) neutral pullover on sale.
An option for kids, though I think the XL size could fit a small adult, too!
If you’re looking for layers, you can’t beat our best overall black turtleneck (especially at just $14, the cheapest I’ve seen it in a while).
I’ve found Richer Poorer’s sweaters and sweatshirts to be very comfortable. This one has a particularly nice collar and sleeves and comes in gray, navy blue, and olive green.
Senior editor Winnie Yang just got these merino-silk thermals from Nui for herself and her daughter for skiing. They’re 40 percent off at checkout.
Not-quite-pajama pants made from CashSoft, Gap’s cashmerelike fabric that Strategist staffers can’t stop wearing.
Cashmere won’t be on sale for much longer. Take this opportunity to get your hands on something cashmere for under $50.
This wool-and-hemp version is even cheaper at $15 in select colors. (Black is the cheapest at $13.)
REI has several inexpensive Smartwool hats (in an array of pastels) in its sale section.
Strategist contributor Youngna Park’s kids love this hat because it’s “not too puffy” and can still fit easily under the hood of their ski jackets. “The wool wicks sweat off their heads and does a good job of repelling the stink after lots of wear,” she writes.
I spotted a few of junior writer Bella Druckman’s favorite balaclavas on sale. This one has a button closure and is surprisingly affordable for being 100 percent cashmere.
A set of inexpensive gloves and a hat that won’t be too devastating a loss if they leave it on the playground.
Merrell’s cult-y mocs, which designer Sandy Liang called “the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn,” are 30 percent off in select colors.
Greys’ felted-wool slippers are a good indoor-outdoor option thanks to their grippy tread.
If your winter bedding setup isn’t cutting it, I recommend springing for our best down comforter, which is 20 percent off right now.
Parachute’s cozy flannel bedding is all 20 percent off, but note that top sheets are out of stock at this time. (Good news for fitted-sheet-only evangelists.)
The shams are also quite nice-looking.
For those with winter camping plans, something to keep you warm outside at night.
