Governor Paterson told legislative leaders today that they need to pass a budget which is now eleven weeks overdue by June 28, and without resorting to borrowing. If they fail to do so, he’ll put everything that’s left to resolve, including education cuts, into a final emergency spending bill, which the legislature can vote down at the risk of shutting down state government and turning New York into a post-apocalyptic free-for-all. “We will be out of here [by June 28],” he said. “You can plan your schedules.” [Daily Politics/NYDN]
