He’s counting on tag-team bogeymen of activist judges and gays who want to get married scaring social conservatives to the polls again. “As far as the gay marriage issue, I think it’s going to subliminally help Republicans,” the Long Island congressman told Morning Joe yesterday. “I think the way it helps Republicans is, again — almost as background music — is that it shows an attempt by judges or people considered the political elite to impose their social views on the American people without the opportunity to vote.” By “subliminally,” we assume he means that people won’t think hard enough to remember that Prop. 8 case judge Vaughn Walker was appointed by Reagan and reappointed by George H.W.
