The Nets Win the Travis Outlaw Sweepstakes

Mikhail Prokhorov hasn’t made much of a splash in his first summer as Nets owner, especially considering his stated goal is to win an NBA title within five years (maximum). His team missed out on all of the elite free agents, plus a bunch of second-tier ones, too. Even signing David Lee, the Knicks fan favorite, would have been a nice basketball move, not to mention another slap in the face of the Nets’ cross-river rival. And now their first free-agent signing is a pretty underwhelming one: forward Travis Outlaw, who averaged 9.1 points per game last year for the Clippers and Trail Blazers. Said Prokhorov in a statement released after LeBron announced his intentions last night: “Fortunately, we have more than one plan to reach success.” Presumably, this plan will prove to involve more than a forward who may or may not crack their starting five and a billboard.
