Update: Roger Clemens Indicted for Perjury

The Times’ Michael S. Schmidt — remember him? — is reporting that, according to two people briefed on the matter, federal authorities will indict Roger Clemens for making false statements to Congress during his February 2008 testimony. Clemens’s former trainer, Brian McNamee, first linked Clemens to performance-enhancing drugs in the Mitchell Report, and at the congressional hearing, he and Clemens contradicted each other while under oath about Clemens’s alleged PED use. (McNamee cooperated with authorities in 2008 to avoid steroid-distribution charges.) Update: A federal grand jury charged Clemens with with three counts of making false statements, two counts of perjury and one count of obstruction of Congress. The Times has the 18-page indictment.
