A couple of months ago, Maurice Harkless, a highly regarded six-foot-six Forest Hills swingman, chose Connecticut over Kentucky. Today, he chose St. John’s over both of them. New coach Steve Lavin has his first superstar recruit — he’s already brought over some lesser, but still impressive, recruits — and suddenly, the Red Storm’s future looks brighter than it has in a decade. (Well, unless you believe Rick Pitino, who thinks they’re winning the Big East this year. Harkless will play at a Connecticut private school this year, and then he’s all ours.
