The Chicago Tribune’s Phil Rogers polled “a dozen people who either work for the Yankees or deal with them on a regular basis” and reports that there’s little concern Joe Girardi would leave the Yankees after his contract expires at the end of this season. (Rogers asked them to rate the chances of it happening on a scale of one to ten, with one being the smallest chance, and the scores ranged from negative one to three and a half.) And then there’s this, from “one person close to the Yankees’ brain trust”: “If he does go somewhere, it won’t be (to Chicago).” So where would he go then, if he leaves, which no one seems to think he will? One insider suggests the Cardinals, although, obviously, such a move would be dependent on Tony La Russa leaving.
