ESPN.com reports that Nets officials — including Mikhail Prokhorov and Jay-Z — expect to meet with Carmelo Anthony this week about signing a contract extension as part of a potential blockbuster trade involving three teams and at least fifteen players, though it’s unclear whether or not they’ve been granted permission to do so yet. (Also unclear: Whether Anthony would sign said extension.) So is Anthony looking forward to a potential meeting? It doesn’t sound like it. Here’s Anthony, talking to reporters yesterday: “I don’t want to talk to nobody. I let the front office handle that type of stuff. It ain’t my job to be talking to New Jersey, New York, the Lakers, Dallas, no one. That’s not my job to do.” Of course, as the ESPN report notes (and as some of his other quotes might indicate), it’s possible Anthony believes that taking such a meeting would constitute tampering — though the league reportedly would be fine with such a meeting if the Nuggets gave their approval.
