Unlike the St. John’s men’s team, the women’s squad advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 32 this year. (In the women’s bracket, that’s officially the second round, as opposed to the men’s side, where the second round, technically, is the Round of 64.) But their season ended last night with a 75–49 loss at Stanford, the No. 1 seed in the Spokane region. The ninth-seeded Red Storm had their work cut out for them in their bid to reach the Sweet 16: Stanford had won 62 straight games at Maples Pavilion going into last night, and win No. 63 capped a perfect career home record for the team’s seniors. St. John’s, which lost in the second round for the second consecutive year, ends the season with a record of 22–11.
