Rex Ryan’s book tour keeps on chugging along — one report said it involved 21 interviews on Wednesday alone — and by this point, Ryan’s made clear his thoughts on everything from the NFL Draft to the royal wedding. And so now it appears we’ve reached the point at which interviewers are going there. Here’s Michael Kay, asking Ryan a question about last year’s playoffs on a yet-to-air episode of YES’s CenterStage: “Would you have carved off your pinkie toe to win that Patriot game?” Get it? Because of this. Ryan’s answer isn’t half bad, actually, for a guy who has avoided saying whether that was indeed his wife in the infamous foot-fetish videos.
Kay said the crowd started to nervously giggle. Ryan threw his head back. Kay said he “turned red through the makeup. I was mortified.”
Ryan said, “Oh, there’s so many things I can say.”
“Yes, I would carve off my pinky toe.” Long pause. “But not my wife’s.”
If the lockout doesn’t end soon, we wonder if this book tour will just continue on and on, indefinitely, until Ryan has a reason to do some actual coaching.
