Collin McHugh, Still Awesome

Collin McHugh #36 of the New York Mets pitches against the Colorado Rockies at Citi Field on August 23, 2012 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City.
Come back soon.

In a typical Mets move — at least for the second half of this season — after blogger Collin McHugh made his major league debut by shutting out the Rockies for eight innings (in a game the Mets of course lost 1-0), the team sent him down to the minors. This would be discouraging for most people, but not McHugh, who has updated his blog with a good-hearted post titled “Buffalo to NYC to Buffalo.” Choice quote: “Now, my wife and I find ourselves back in AAA Buffalo. You may say that seems unfair. Perhaps you have some witty quip about how I should’ve just thrown better. But the truth of the matter is, there have been many times in my career where I was convinced it was all over, only to make it out on the other side no worse for the wear.” See, now there’s a guy you can cheer for. When rosters expand on September 1, McHugh will surely be back up at Citi Field, and he’ll go through the rigmarole everyone goes through in the big leagues; he won’t have a 0.00 ERA forever. But when he’s up, give him a hand. The Mets need good stories. They need any good story. There is one right here.
