Craning may be the latest act of derring-do to sweep the Internet (YouTube it), but down here on Earth, thrills still abound. Take Bklyn Beast (230 Bogart St., nr. Ten Eyck St., Bushwick; 347-457-6290), for instance. New York’s first indoor facility devoted to parkour, a French style of movement that looks a bit like skateboarding without a skateboard, kicks off its launch with a two-day open house (January 26 and 27; see bklynbeast.com for the full schedule), where adults and kids can test free versions of the gym’s regular classes. Novices will stick to precision jumps on a purple springboard floor and vaults over three- or four-foot obstacles, while intermediate and advanced students may run up a ninja-worthy curved wall, maneuver across ten-foot-high pseudo-scaffolding, and then dismount into a six-foot-deep foam pit. Not exactly death-defying, but a rush all the same.
