First Look: Garden State

Now in its twentieth year, the Antique Garden Furniture Show and Sale at the New York Botanical Garden (2900 Southern Blvd., the Bronx; 718-817-8700, nybg.org) draws both green thumbs and design lovers with its well-curated selection of furniture, fountains, gates, birdbaths, urns, and books. Highlights include Ani Ancient Stone’s collection of English, French, and Hungarian hand-cut-glass pendant lamps from the twenties ($325 each); this circa-sixties pair of Italian marble planters ($2,100); and this vintage elevator door ($2,400), which could act as a vibrant room divider or a creative fence for climbing white roses. The event runs April 27 through 29 (tickets $7 to $20), with a preview party on April 26 (6 to 8 p.m.; tickets from $200); proceeds benefit the New York Botanical Garden’s horticulture programs. Dawn Hill Antiques’ French curved iron bench with piecrust seat ($3,600) dates from about 1900 and is perfectly suited for a gentile country garden or an eclectic urban terrace. Photo: Courtesy of the New York Botanical Garden

This graceful garden gate ($2,400) from The Red Horse Antiques would also make an unusual room divider. Outdoors, it could host a wild array of climbing morning glories, roses, or honeysuckle. Photo: Courtesy of the New York Botanical Garden

This plant stand ($2,000) from Purcell Antiques was designed for greenery, but it could easily double as a curiosity cabinet showcasing beachy ephemera or unusual flea-market finds. Photo: Courtesy of the New York Botanical Garden
