Harry Heissmann (harryheissmanninc.com) knows a thing or two about high-end decorating, having worked with the legendary Albert Hadley for ten years before starting his own business in 2009. His repertoire displays an especially deft sleight of hand when it comes to giving his brilliant polish to smaller spaces, as evidenced by this 1,000-square-foot penthouse project in the West Village, commissioned by clients who plan to use it as a pied-à-terre. Harry credits his contractor, Greg Dyer of Element Design Group, for much of its success. The entrance hall and kitchen walls are covered in Miro-inspired wallpaper in black and white. The hallway and kitchen floor is covered in stainless-steel-studded black rubber tiles from Aronson’s, and the portrait in the hall is by Robert Loughlin. The closet doors in the dining room were framed into panels and covered in Festival Feast wallpaper by Eskayel from Studio4NYC. Photo: Russell Gera

“The kitchen was this generic, dingy, falling-apart space with white cabinets,” says Harry of the space before he splashed it with a makeover of cherry red by Element Design Group (elementdesignnyc.com). Photo: Russell Gera

The living room mixes color and textures with a CB2 rug and sofa from West Elm. The existing wood floors were painted black with Janovic Plaza gloss black 9764. The pillow ottoman was found at Housing Works and recovered in green leather. The blue throw is from Domus on West 44th Street. Photo: Russell Gera
