First Look: Bringing Personality to the Wooden

I first became aware of woodworker Palo Samko (palosamko.com) at the Brooklyns Designs show a few years ago, and I’ve been a fan ever since. Palo is an artist who brings unusual beauty to such everyday objects as tables, chairs, mirrors, and clocks. Pictured here is a wall of his Salvatore clocks (from $350) made of various carved woods, including pine, walnut, and fir, as well as his Arrow dining table ($14,000) and walnut Sunset dining chair with leather back support ($1,800.) The surface of the Southern Cross table is created with objects from Palo’s collection of antique clock parts in the pattern of the stars of the northern hemisphere. The butterflies are ebony. Photo: Palo Samko

Palo’s 60-inch Rosewood credenza ($5,500), Dali clock on top ($450), and standing Acorn lamp ($2,450.) The Round mirrors start at $800. Photo: Palo Samko

Palo’s Bronze Butterfly table is ($7,200) measures in at four feet across. Photo: Palo Samko
