First Look: Prepping for a Royal Visit

Starting today through August 14, the Park Avenue Armory will be home to the Royal Shakespeare Company, which has designed and built a perfect replica of its theater in Stratford-Upon-Avon and shipped it to New York in time for the Lincoln Center Festival. For its performances of As You Like It, Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, The Winter’s Tale, and King Lear, the company stowed an entire theater, and all the necessary props and costumes, into 46 shipping containers and then reassembled it in the armory’s 55,000-square-foot Wade Thompson Drill Hall. The first thing you see when you enter is this three-story rear wall. Photo: Wendy Goodman
