Latin Music, Tom Ford, and Fast Food

Latin Grammy Awards after-parties. The official shindig, at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers, 811 Seventh Ave., nr. 52nd St., features a “Clinique Happy Lounge.” There’s also a party sponsored by Johnny Walker at Sky Studios, 704 Broadway, nr. W. 4th St. Shakira, Ricky Martin, and Andrea Bocelli are among the celebs scheduled to be out and about. You know you’ve made it as an ethnic group when luxury-good manufacturers are clamoring for your after-party market share —congratulations, Latinos!

Fast Food Nation screening. Museum of the Moving Image, 3601 35th Ave., nr. 36th St., Astoria, 6:15 p.m. Star Wilmer Valderrama, director Richard Linklater, and super-muckraking author Eric Schlosser will be on hand. We were going to make a joke about the incongruity of screening an anti–fast food movie in Queens, until we realized that the same incongruity would occur anywhere in America. Then we realize that not only is that the point of the movie, it’s actually a point expressed in the movie’s title. So, yeah. We got low grades in lit classes.
Tom Ford’s Black Orchid fragrance launch. Top of the Rock, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, nr. Sixth Ave., 9 p.m. Scheduled guests include Anna Wintour, Donatella Versace, Karolina Kurkova, Paz Vega, and Charlie Rose. Says the press release, “The inspiration for the fragrance came from Tom Ford’s fascination with finding the elusive black orchid. The black orchid hybrid created for Tom Ford is the blackest orchid in nature.” They asked, how much more black could this orchid be? And the answer was none. None orchid more black.
