A record number of dog bites occurred in the city in 2010, with tiny Chihuahuas and Shih Tzus, perhaps surprisingly, making the list of the top five aggressors. One explanation: Smaller dogs are more frequently carried around in stores, exposing them to “provocative” situations. And they don’t realize that pretty much anyone they bite is about 1,000 times stronger than themselves. “Dogs don’t know how big they are,” a dog trainer says. [NYP]
