Several women in Saudi Arabia risked severe punishment on Friday by openly defying the ban against female drivers, spurred on by encouragement from social-media sites and inspired by recent protests elsewhere in the Middle East. The protest movement gained steam online and off after a 32-year-old Saudi woman was jailed for ten days for posting a video of herself driving a car last month. For American women, it sure puts dealing with hacky jokes about lady drivers in perspective. [AP]
