Roger Clemens Does Not Have a ‘Get Out of Court Free’ Card

A judge ruled today that Roger Clemens will be tried again for perjury after his first go-around ended in a mistrial. Clemens’s lawyers had been trying to get the judge to throw out the case, claiming federal prosecutors deliberately threw the case in July because they thought they might lose if it had a fair trial. Today, the judge said he agreed that the prosecution was stupid for showing evidence it knew was inadmissible, but that that didn’t absolve Clemens of his indictments. So, back to the defense chair for Clemens, and back to the original NES for us, where you’ll find somebody wondering if there’s any more pungent emotion than the lost innocence of childhood while he cries over an old copy of Roger Clemens’ MVP Baseball.
