Motivated in part by the growth of the Hispanic population in the U.S., Disney and Univision are contemplating a dive into the cable news game with a 24-hour English-language channel. The Wall Street Journal first reported the talks between Disney, which owns ABC News, and the leading Spanish-language network. Disney has yet to challenge Time Warner’s CNN, News Corp.’s Fox News, and Comcast’s MSNBC. To date, Univision has broadcasted predominately in Spanish. If the companies come to terms, they would attempt to get the network up and running in time to take advantage of viewers’ appetite for November presidential election coverage. And if they really hustle, we could get all treated to a 24th, 25th, or even 30th Republican primary debate.
