David Lee Simpson of Bath, New York, allegedly quit his job and started to “head south” in a car filled with “several guns, ammunition, handcuffs, zip-ties, binoculars, a knife and a police radio” — along with newspaper clippings about the Newtown massacre — in a plot to kill HLN anchor Nancy Grace. According to authorities, Simpson targeted Grace and her fellow newscaster Jane Velez-Mitchell for their less-than-flattering coverage of infamous Arizona murderer and cable news star Jodi Arias; he planned to tie them to trees, “leave them to suffer all night,” and “slit their throats.” Luckily, Simpson was arrested and charged after a routine traffic stop.
