A 25-year-old Brooklyn man is suing the NYPD for detaining him for 24 hours because they thought Jolly Ranchers he was holding were meth. It’s a funny enough crime story, but for this detail: Officer Jermaine Taylor “claimed that he administered a field test to determine if the candy was narcotics and got a “positive” result, the complaint states.” A lab test later showed it to be candy. But if the claim about the field test is true, the NYPD is going to have to have a serious talk with whoever provides its testing hardware.
