Major League Baseball has won its epic battle with Alex Rodriguez. The Yankees third baseman dropped his lawsuit today against the league, the players’ association, and commissioner Bud Selig, implicitly accepting the 162-game suspension (plus the playoffs) handed down last month. Despite the circuslike arbitration process, which dropped the punishment from 211 games to one full season, turning to the courts was always considered a long shot. The Yankees will save more than $25 million this season, but continue to owe A-Rod $61 million more through 2017.
