Christopher Brosius has a nose for business. In fact, you could say his nose is his business. The Kiehl’s alumnus (and founder of the Demeter home-fragrance line) just opened the Christopher Brosius Studio & Perfume Gallery on a somewhat deserted block in Williamsburg (93 Wythe Avenue; 718-384-6890). The space, which Brosius first planned to use as a garage for his now-sold car, is lofty and lined with 250 brown bottles containing the essences of everything from dirt to flowers to Bazooka bubble gum (over 1,000 more scents are stored in an archive). If you’re just looking for a singular smell, a fifteen-milliliter bottle starts at $25. But if you have the urge to create, you can develop a custom perfume with Brosius (there are two levels of customization, depending on how complicated your scent is). Consultations range from $125 to $350; the finished, alcohol-free product costs $40 to $100, and your formula is kept on file for easy refills. Brosius’s own perfume line is in development—expect to get a first whiff of his new creations this fall.
