I thought I was done with patent leather. I was a fashion child of the eighties—the leggings, the long Benetton sweaters (which I still have), the perm—I did it all. The pictures still haunt me and swore I would never do it again. Then I saw Rafe’s aptly-named Benatar boots, with a 3-inch cone heel, in distressed—you guessed it—patent leather. It was love at first sight, and I have now learned—again—never to say never.
$325 at Rafe, 1 Bleecker St., at Bowery; 212-780-9739.
