A Fresh Direct for Bikes

After admiring the low-maintenance commuter bikes filling the streets of such varied cities as Hanoi and Copenhagen, former Wall Street trader Ryan Patrick decided to launch his own line of high-quality, moderately priced cycles. Starting August 15, you can order a two-speed Brooklyn Cruiser model online ($499; brooklyncruiser.com) and have it delivered to your home and fully assembled the next day for $75 (or you can just pick it up for free the following Saturday at Smorgasburg). Decked out with leather grips, a front or rear carrier, and double-top-tube frame, Patrick’s rides come with a signature Sturmey Archer two-speed kick-shift hub—an improved version of the old backpedaling brake—instead of less durable hand gears. The 26-inch bikes sport a step-through or diamond frame and come in black, cream, and tangerine.
