At 18,097 square feet, the new Eastern Mountain Sports store at 530 Broadway (at Spring St.; 212-966-8730) is three times larger than the previous location. The first floor is dedicated to climbing, but there’s also backcountry skiing equipment; bikes from Jamis and Masi ($500 to $2,200); kayaks from Necky, Wilderness Systems, and Hurricane ($700 to $1,500); plus apparel, sleeping bags, watches, and water bottles.

On May 16, Artbook at X will open a temporary (through March 2010) shop in Dia’s old space (548 W. 22nd St., nr. Eleventh Ave.; 917-697-4886), with hundreds of titles focusing on contemporary art and culture, including Raquel Tibol’s Diego Rivera and Oliver Halsman Rosenberg’s Unknown Halsman, seen here.
